Technical Difficulties

As you may have noticed, we are behind schedule. Our goal was to have new episodes ready to go by the time the new year rolled around. Well, “technical difficulties”, I say. My usual method for dealing with uncooperative electronic and computer equipment would be to hit them with a blunt object, or, if it’s something small enough to lift, to shake it violently. But lately none of this has been working. I’ve started reading instruction manuals. I hate instruction manuals, it is the only kind of reading material they have down there in hell.

I’m the Softest

I just posted our very first Pinky Show episode to the archives section. It’s called The Health Care Crisis, Part I and is an interview with Dr. Hui. He hung out with us for a while and my favorite part was when Mimi, Kim, Pinky, and I were all walking with him down by the dried-up river bed and he was feeling all our fur and he said that my fur was the softest (it’s true, I’m really really soft).

Anyway we’re happy to finally have a Pinky Show episode on the website - this one is a text-only episode, but following ones will probably be audio or audio with pictures. It looks pretty ridiculous right now, sitting there in the big, empty archive all by itself, but we’ll keep making more.

Are Ants Yummy?

Numerous bug fixes, though I’m sure there are others I’m not aware of yet. If you find any, please drop me a line by e-mail. I’ll try to fix them as soon as possible.

Pinky’s on a short trip, she’ll be back next Wednesday. I’ve been watching Pinky’s AntFarm™
for a few days now. I wonder what ants taste like.

Ready to Go

Finally got back some equipment today I’ve been waiting for to be repaired for weeks. It sure took a while, but all of our equipment seems to be working together now and I think I can finally say that our little production studio is ready to go.

One of the disadvantages to living way out here in the borderlands is how long it takes to fix things if (when) things do go wrong. Not to mention we are severely under-equipped to begin with. And lack a knowledgeable staff (and budget) to properly operate or maintain the equipment we do have. I also don’t think we have any funding coming our way, in the foreseeable future anyway, to acquire new equipment (not that we’d be able to afford any training for said vaporware anyway)… Disaster? Maybe. Pinky keeps telling us not to worry too much, that all we can do is try our hardest to make this thing work and keep going as long as possible, and hopefully something good will happen.

Which reminds me, I have to get the donation page working. We’re going to need donations if we want to keep this website up, running, and commercial-free.

Our First Blurb

First blurb done. Click here to watch it. Small enough to download and attach to e-mail. Please e-mail to your friends if you like. It’s about B2 bombers. According to Pinky they actually built those B2 bombers very near here. Thank you.

The Pinky Show Trailer

Okay, so we finally have a short video introduction to The Pinky Show. You can watch it by clicking on the tiny television set icon on our home page. Pinky and I never made anything like that before so we just watched a bunch of trailers to get some kind of ideas. The first thing we noticed is that all the trailers are 2:30 minutes long (why is that?). Ours came out to be 2:21 - we tried but couldn’t think of nine more seconds of something to put in there, sorry.

Watch a New Blurb

Another blurb done. This one is about those ‘Support Our Troops’ ribbon stickers. I don’t know if they are popular all over the country but around here they are everywhere. Please watch, download, and e-mail.

We’re on a Roll

We are on a mini-roll. Another blurb done, this one is about elephants. No real message or anything like that, we just liked Tim’s elephant story and decided to share it with everyone. Mimi was upset that we put in the picture of the elephant stepping on that person’s head - she said it is ‘anti-elephant’, which I don’t think it is. If anything, I think it’s anti-guy-riding-the-elephant or anti-guy-who-told-guy-riding-the-elephant-to-step-on-that-other-guy’s-head. Anyway, the new blurb is here.

Our First Video Episode

I just put our first video episode online (Fabulous Imperialism: The Columbian Exposition of 1893). Working on it was fun - not counting the research and collection of all the materials, that episode took us about a week to put together. It’s a bit rough and now that we are done with it, there’s quite a few parts that we would have liked to have done differently (or better). But rather than keep on working on it forever we decided to move along and just put it out there and see what people say about it. So there it is. Hopefully we’ll get feedback that’ll help us to get better at making these things.
To me, the first half is kind of boring but it is necessary and the second half ties everything together so please watch the whole thing carefully.

Pinky’s Ants Speak

The Ants from Pinky’s AntFarm™ have prepared a statement so we’ve made it into a mini-blurb. You can hear what they have to say by clicking here. I’ve also posted a new Idea in the Fight! section.

A few days ago I posted a new blurb about stupid toys. If you haven’t already seen it, you can check it out by clicking here. I also posted a blurb yesterday called Students against Rice Eaters. I like rice.

The American War: The U.S. in Vietnam

The Vietnam War episode is finally done, you can see it here. So far the response has been really great, and that makes me feel good because it took us a long time to put it together - lots of reading, lots of searching for appropriate pictures, lots of maps to draw (Pinky), and so on. I went to Washington D.C. to do the research - It was hard work but also fun because I had some time to sightsee and act like a tourist in our nation’s capitol before coming home.

Now on to the next episode. Pinky has already started writing. At least the next couple episodes will be much shorter ones - we’re going to try to have them fall in the 6-8 minute range. So it won’t be long before we have a new episode on our site, my guess is in about 10 days or so.

I’ve finally posted Pinky’s diary entry - just kept forgetting (sorry Pinky!). You can read it here.

Thank you.

The Pinky Show on TV

We just heard that our most recent episode, The American War: the U.S. in Vietnam will be aired on Olelo, public access television channel 56 in Hawaii at 10pm, 9/30, 10/1, 10/7 and 10/8. That’s cool because 10pm on that channel (weeknights) is Democracy Now! so maybe somebody will not realize it’s the weekend and accidentally watch our show.

Anniversary of the Modern Non-Violence Movement

While Pinky posts her gloomy, all-bad-news September 11 entry over in her diary area, I’m going to remind everybody that September 11th is also the 100th anniversary of the birth of the modern non-violence movement. On September 11, 1906, Mohandas K. Gandhi first publicly put forth his call for a method of resisting violence with non-violence. Ironic, isn’t it? Find this on the front page of your local newspaper!

We were also surprised to find out, after the fact, that public access TV Channel 56 aired our Pinky Show episode The American War: The U.S. in Vietnam this morning at 6:30 a.m. When we first submitted the program for broadcast we had actually been told that they were going to show our program starting September 30, but apparently somebody at Olelo decided to kick off their September 11’s broadcast schedule with our show. We only found out when we started receiving phone calls from people telling us they had just finished watching it and really liked it (public access TV requires contact info at the end of every program). Nice…

Bunny Was Here

Last weekend Pinky and I went into the city (Los Angeles). It was really hot and it took us a long time to get there. Pinky had a lot of stuff on her mind and almost got run over by a car - twice. While she did her meetings I took the opportunity to go visit the house where I was born since it was nearby.

It’s right next to the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City. The place still looks about the same although I didn’t see anybody there who I thought I might be related to.

I had several brothers and sisters but I don’t know what happened to them, they just disappeared one by one. I was the last one to leave home, I left when I met Pinky. I also took a picture of the exact spot where we first met (below). It’s covered with trash.

The Health Care Crisis version 2.0

New/old episode posted: The Health Care Crisis, Part I. Previously posted way back in January as a text-only episode, we finally updated it to include sound and (moving) pictures. It feels a bit like we just took a step backwards but it was bugging us that that episode wasn’t available in video form. Now we try to go forward with finishing up the new episodes.

Things have been slow around here because we ran out of money a few months ago. Things are hand-to-mouth.

Christmas Card

Pinky made a Christmas card. It’s in the Fight! section, here. Download and print, preferably on a color printer. The blue snowflakes are pretty. The cat shaped snowman was my idea.

Bunny X-stitch

Dear Bunny,
My name is Geena and I really like The Pinky Show. Good work! I also happen to enjoy cross stitching as a hobby. Since I know you like cross stitching too I made this portrait of you. I hope you like it. By the way, why is the show not called The Pinky & Bunny Show?
Best wishes, Geena

Hi Geena, Thanks so much for the cross stitch art! I really look cute as a cross stitch. Thanks for doing me (instead of Pinky). The reason why the show is named after her is actually kind of a long story but I agree with you that the show would be better with a different name (for example, The Bunny Show). I used Photoshop to put the cross stitch art in a frame until I can find a real frame the right size to put it in. Also I’m going to post the pattern so that other people can have a x-stitch Bunny picture too. Again, thanks for the art! Love, Bunny
