New Blurbs & Diary Entries

I posted a couple of new blurbs a few days ago. One is about Thomas Edison, and the other is a message from Pinky’s ants. You’ll find both of them on our archives page. I also finally posted Pinky’s diary entries from last month as well as this month’s entries.

New Episode: 27,000 Holocausts

We just finished this episode last night; it’s about nuclear weapons (you can see it here).

Reminder: All our episodes & blurbs have transcripts. The transcripts (plus credits, bibliography, etc.) are located via the [ transcript / credits ] link below each episode or blurb. A typed-out version is good for classroom work or individual study. I do the transcripts now because Pinky types slower than turtles.

Globalization Episode

We have a new episode - it’s called Globalization and the metaphysics of control in a free market world. Long title. This one is in comic strip format and is very short (approx. 3 minutes long). See it here.

This comic strip is also available as an 18″x24″ poster that you can stick on the wall. We went to the print shop yesterday and printed one out big and had it laminated. It looks cool. It’s on the wall next to the computer; it kind of makes our ‘office’ look a little bit like a classroom - neat. I’m still working on the online store. When I’m done I’ll put this poster - and any others we have by then - in the store.

Globalization Episode, Part II

Another new episode in our series about globalization - Defending Globalization: a mission for the educated and enlightened. As you can see we like the long titles. See it here.

We are having lots of fun recycling this comic strip. We’re actually almost finished with Part III, which is also about globalization but from yet another angle. Globalization is complicated enough that we could keep on going like this forever (we won’t). Hope you like it.

Globalization, Part III

This is our last episode on the subject of globalization for now (see it here). It’s basically about Third World debt. Of the three this one is my favorite.

We have scripts for 3 or 4 more episodes with the same comic, this time on the subject of colonization. But we’ll do those later. For the time being I want to work on something else - we still have that Iraq episode plus a couple others to finish up.

One of the reasons why we got a few days late with finishing up this episode is because I got busy making a new area for this website. For now we’re just calling it the ‘Special’ area. We are going to put mini-reviews of websites, movies, and other stuff we like in there. We also have a new page of human beings. I like that page.

Infinite Cat Project

Our new favorite website: http://www.infinitecat.com/. You must go there, because it is awesome. 1,400+ cats contemplating the infinite. This is what the internet was invented for. Mike Stanfill, the human being who runs the site, e-mailed us to let us know that he had made The Pinky Show website his “Cat Site of the Week”. Yes!

The New Pinky Show Store

New Episode: The Iraq War - Legal or Illegal?

Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, we finally finished our 24 minute summary on the illegality of the Iraq war and occupation. See it here.

More news: we now have an assortment of Pinky Show shirts in our support area. They are very nice shirts. All proceeds from shirts (and posters, dvds, etc.) go directly to the production of new episodes. So buy lots of stuff - we have lots of subjects we want to explore in yet-to-be-created episodes. Thank you.

We’re in Las Vegas

All of us are going to Las Vegas next week for our big meeting. We’ll be gone June 12 to 18 so if you send an e-mail that requires a response we won’t be able to answer until we get back.

Back From Las Vegas

We’re back home now. Pinky will be posting a summary report in her diary, probably tomorrow.

Walking to Las Vegas nearly killed us. It’s only 100 miles but it was about 115-120°F (46-49°C) in the sun. Too hot - I thought I was going to die. My nose got sun burned. Next year I vote for holding our meeting in Alaska.

The Pinky Show Featured on YouTube

One of the editors at YouTube picked The Pinky Show to be on the front page of YouTube. Cool. We’re getting a ton more e-mails than usual. I suppose this is our 15 minutes of ‘internet fame’. Next week: back to obscurity. ~ Bunny

Pinky Show website hacking update.

As many of you know by now, on Friday, July 20, someone hacked our website. We took the site offline as soon as we found out about the problem and Bunny set to work on getting things back to normal. As I write this (July 22), our website is now clean and back online. We also took the opportunity to update other parts of our site - these areas will come back online over the next few days.

As far as we can tell, the malicious code (a.k.a. malware) that was placed on our site during the hack was designed to exploit security problems inherent in PC computers running Microsoft Internet Explorer. For this reason we think it’s especially important for anyone using this combination (Windows PCs + Explorer) to immediately take steps to protect yourself by using an up-to-date antivirus program (Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, NOD32, etc.). Even if you use a different web browser (Firefox, Opera, etc.) it’s generally good practice to regularly use antivirus and firewall protection (”safe computing”). Another good idea is to always keep your Windows software updated with the latest patches from Microsoft. Malicious code in the form of trojan horses, worms, and viruses of all kinds are very common all over the internet (over 100,000 different flavors, with over 200 new ones coming out every month) so please take care of your computers!

A special thank you to everyone who stepped forward with information and assistance, and also to everyone else for being so patient and supportive. We took our time getting the site back online because we like to be as careful as possible and wanted to double and triple-check everything.

Please take care!

We’re kicking off a new side-project today called Americanism: The Movie. It’s a little different from what we usually do in that we are asking for audience participation via the YouTube website. Confused? Click here to see the trailer.

Finally a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit

After waiting for more than a year, Mimi finally got the phone call from the IRS today that our application to become a non-profit educational organization was approved. It won’t be official-official until we receive our certification letter in the mail (probably next week), but according to her this is really good news. Now we can apply for a lot more grants than we could before, and I think monetary donations made to The Pinky Show will also be tax-deductable. I will ask Mimi to write an entry explaining what this all means.

The Pinky Show in Portuguese

Our friend Rosana in Brazil e-mailed us to let us know that she made subtitles for our trailer. As far as I know this is the first-ever subtitled PS episode. So cool. If you can read Portuguese, here it is…. Big hug to Rosana.

Pinky’s Computer in Pieces

While Pinky is away I am servicing her computer, which is near death. I also reorganized our work space. It is more roomy now. Pinky is a pack-rat. If I don’t throw things away while she is gone we will have this stuff forever.

How We Make The Pinky Show

Another new entry for our Do-It-Yourself area. It’s a description, more or less, of the process we go through to make Pinky Show episodes. Maybe not interesting to most people, but for what its worth, here it is.

Also, Pinky is back from her short trip to Seattle, Washington. She did some interviews and took lots of photographs, which will appear in upcoming episodes. For our travel present she brought back a book, it came in a plastic bag from the UW bookstore, cool. The title is Where the Lightning Strikes: The Lives of American Indian Sacred Places. She forgot to peel off the price sticker, it cost $10.

Some people have asked for Pinky Show banners or buttons for their website, blog, MySpace page, etc. I finally got around to making some tonight. The file is small (124kb, zipped); it contains 9 different graphics of various sizes in it. Download the kit by clicking here. I hope you like them.

New Episode: How To Solve Illegal Immigration

I just posted our newest video, How To Solve Illegal Immigration. Although this is the first video that has Daisy in it, we’ve actually known Daisy for a long time. The video can be watched by clicking here.

In other news, we will be opening a brand new area on our website soon. It’s really good, to me this new area will be just as important as our video archive in the long run. Pinky told me to announce it but I like secrets.

eBay Giving Works Program

Mimi & Kim have set up an account with MissionFish, the organization that allows non-profit organizations like ourselves to do fundraising through eBay. The program is called eBay Giving Works and it’s a very creative program that’s already helped thousands of non-profits raise millions of dollars. It works by:

1) Allowing non-profit organizations a way to sell donated stuff on eBay and use the proceeds to fund their projects.

2) Providing a way for people to sell their unwanted or excess stuff on eBay, and donating the proceeds to The Pinky Show.

Pretty neat. We’re hoping that people will give it a try. To find out more about the The Pinky Show at eBay Giving Works, please follow this link:

New Area: Conversations

Today we are opening a new area at the Pinky Show website. Since we lack imagination, we are tentatively just calling it ‘the Conversations area’. The idea is simple but we are very excited about it - basically we’re going to use this area to archive (in text form) some of the conversations that we’ve had with others, or even conversations we’ve had amongst ourselves, that have been important to our learning.

We’re kicking off the new area with an interview Pinky did with psychotherapist Shirin Shokouhi on the subject of violence. She talks about violence at the interpersonal level but also between nations. It is very eye-opening. I hope people will take some time to consider what Ms. Shokouhi has to say. Especially since at this very moment our leaders are trying to create a new war, this time with Iran.

We will be adding more conversations on a regular basis.

New Conversation: What is the Matrix?

A couple of weeks ago our friend Callie stopped by to visit us here in the desert. Callie and I both like the movie The Matrix, so before she arrived we agreed that we’d have a discussion about it when she got here. The transcript of our chat is here.

Pinky: 2007 Cat of the Year

We received an e-mail today saying that Pinky has been named the ‘2007 Cat of the Year’ by the Western Association of Deserts. I have no idea what kind of organization this is. I Googled it but found nothing. But anyway, congratulations to Pinky - I’m guessing there are lots of cats in deserts so it’s probably pretty hard to win something like this.

New episodes!

Great news! We have a new blurb available for your viewing pleasure. Actually, there’s two, since I forgot to announce the previous one. The first is called From Swords into Plowshares, and today’s is called Kicking the Apartheid Habit. You can find both in our episodes archive.

Happy holidays!

New Homepage Picture

The cross-stitch Pinky I made last year is now featured on our homepage. I also made it into a t-shirt design. Not that anybody is going to want it - everybody loves TV and nobody cares about cross-stitching - but that’s okay.

Over the past few weeks Pinky and I have been spending most of our time doing research for our next series of episodes. It’s about settler colonialism. Pinky’s been studying this stuff for a few years but it’s different when you have to get everything together for an episode (or episodes). It’s going to be really hard to explain this stuff. Actually the problem isn’t so much that the material is too complicated; I think it’ll be hard to explain this stuff to people because it’s the kind of ideas that nobody wants to understand.

A Short Walk; Project Twenty1 Film Festival

Announcement 1: Pinky and I are just about ready to jump into ‘writing phase’ for our next few episodes, plus the new year is right around the corner. So we thought it’d be nice to start the new year by going for a walk. Just for a few days. Walking is good, it’ll give us a chance to organize our thoughts. We’re not bringing any books, just a notepad and a pen. And food and water.

We’ll start walking on Dec 31 (new year’s eve morning) and walk around here in the desert until maybe Jan 5th or so. It’s not so hot right now (about 50°F during the day, 35-ish° F at night) so it should be nice. “Mini-vacation.”

We won’t be doing any e-mail during this time.

Announcement 2: On January 5th one of our episodes (Thomas Edison Hates Cats) is going to be screened at the Project Twenty1 film festival in Philadelphia. Our very first film festival! We really wanted to attend but it’s way too far to walk and we couldn’t afford the air fare and stuff. But we were very flattered to be invited and even more surprised when our video was actually selected. This is a ‘new’ film festival but I think it will be successful because the organizers have lots of energy and are very nice people. But yeah, that’s another reason why we’re going for a walk. It’d be depressing to be just sitting here at home while our video is being screened at a film festival and we’re missing all the parties and stuff.

Okay, see you in about a week.

A New Year

Hi everybody. This will be my last post for the year 2007. Starting tomorrow morning Bunny and I will be taking a walk. We’ll walk and talk for a few days and hopefully we’ll come up with some ideas for how to solve some of the problems facing our project. All signs point to 2008 not being a very quiet or peaceful year, but we’re going to try our best to at least have it start it out that way.

The four of us - Kim, Mimi, Bunny, and myself - we’d like to wish all of you, our dear animal friends, much peace and beauty for this coming year. I love you.
